I am currently at work on a narrative history of how serialized cable television rose to become the dominant art form of the past decade. Tentatively titled “Difficult Men”, it will be published someday by the Penguin Press.
In 2006, I wrote The Sopranos: The Book , an official companion and retrospective, for HBO. Publisher’s Weekly called it “gorgeously designed and smartly written.” “Pine Barrens: An Oral History” and David Chase’s first post-finale interview were excerpted in Entertainment Weekly.
I am also the author of Top Chef The Cookbook.
My articles on Saigon street food and FedEx food were anthologized in Best Food Writing 2006 and Best Food Writing 2010.
My essay “On Dealing Drugs, Badly” appeared in Money Changes Everything: Twenty-Two Writers Tackle the Last Taboo with Tales of Sudden Windfalls, Staggering Debts, and Other Surprising Turns of Fortune.
My 1999 interview with Tom Waits is soon to reappear in Tom Waits on Tom Waits: Interviews and Encounters, edited by Paul Maher, Jr.
